If you don’t know about my obsessive organization habit, you’re probably new to my blog!! Ha. Every now and then I share some of my favorite ways to keep makeup neat and organized because, let’s face it, it’s really easy to let it all go to hell and have to deal with a messy makeup station. Not happening in my house!
Lipstick is one of those products that typically comes individually packaged. Every now and then you’ll see a nice lipstick palette, but who’s to say it’s going to have the colors you want? Now, when it comes to organizing my lipsticks, I have two issues: One, I don’t like the idea of all my lipsticks floating around in a drawer. Finding the right color can be time consuming. And two (this is where the obsessive factor comes in), I don’t like it when all the packaging isn’t the same. In other words, I don’t want different looking tubes of lipstick in my makeup collection. I know it’s a ridiculous standard, but I’m particular in that way! So, in order to save space, make it easy to find colors, and eliminate a potential eyesore in my makeup drawer, I keep all my lipsticks in this little palette:

The minute I get my hands on a brand new lipstick, I chop it off and smash it into an empty slot in the palette. I have to admit… The act of cutting off a perfectly pretty lipstick is a little unnerving, but the outcome is even prettier! A perfect palette full of all the colors I love. And here’s another bonus: Using your lip brush, you can easily mix any of the colors right there in the palette. I can’t help it… it’s the painter in me.
You can find these empty palettes at practically any beauty supply (I bought mine at Nigel’s Beauty Emporium in Los Angeles) and they run anywhere from $10-$25.

Hey Teni! I have the same habit except I have a little tip I’d like to share with you. Instead of smashing the lipsticks in, try melting in on a metal spoon making sure you don’t boil the product (because this may change the lipstick’s formula where the color or texture may be altered) and then pour it into each slot. Result is perfectly smooth lipstick in the palette!
Hope that was useful! xo

I really want to do this but then for day, I can’t be carrying around a lip palette. It’s more convenient to carry that one lipstick bullet with you.
Also I’m too scared to cut up a lipstick. I feel like it would kill me =) hahaha xxx

Yes I love this idea ! So what do you do day to day – as in when you want to touch up later in the day, do you put some in a little container ?! X

Try a contact lens case. They are small enough and secure to carry when your on the go. Bonus… there are two slots!

Hi Teni! I love the idea!
But how do you keep them from getting messy in the palette? If you close the palette, would they smash together?
Teni Panosian says:

Nope! They stay put in their respective slots

While I was at Sephora today I stumbled upon the perfect way for you to transport individual colors while on the go. If you ever get a sample of a cream product they give you these little containers that are about a nickel in diameter. I would just go ask them if you could grab a few…hope this helps!
