If you’ve been following my blog for some time, you know I’ve been fighting the battle against dry skin… And lately I’ve been winning! I’ve found great products that have pumped hydration and moisture into my desperately dry skin. But where I’ve been losing the dry battle is with my hair: I just haven’t been able to help my coarse, frizzy, curly/wavy hair. And especially for someone like me who has very dark (almost black) hair, it takes a lot of processing to lighten it. So in addition to being coarse and dry to begin with, add a bunch of color treating and you’ve got coarse, dry, and damaged.

Just as I was beginning to accept that I’d simply have to deal with the state of my hair, I was introduced to the Joico product line. Without getting too technical, (although I love learning about the chemistry of hair!) all Joico products now carry a patent pending complex that actually transforms your hair. This specific complex is able to find what’s lacking about the hair shaft and fill in the missing parts that are causing the damage and weakness, making for a healthier and stronger strand of hair. Obviously, I wasn’t going to believe it til I tried it for myself… And that’s exactly what I did!

The first thing I tried was the K-PAK Shampoo and Conditioner. This combo contains two super reconstructive technologies that are meant to repair and strengthen hair. But here’s where I think it’s so amazing: It only repairs your hair where it needs it. If there are parts where your hair is healthy and doing just fine, it washes right off. But in the areas where you have damage, it steps right in and gets working! After the first shampoo, my hair looked and felt really good; so I kept using it. After about four uses, I was starting to see completely transformed hair: My dry, brittle hair (which I often refer to as hay, sadly) was soft, silky, and it was actually shiny. I haven’t seen shine on my hair since I was a kid! Truly amazing.

I went on to try the Color Endure Shampoo and Conditioner as well since my hair is color treated. I got the same incredible results, and even better, in fact. That’s the thing with the Joico system: The more you use it, the more it repairs your hair.

And here’s a little bonus: The Joico styling collection also carries the same reparative technology as the shampoos and conditioners, so you’re actually improving your hair each time you style. My favorites so far are the Power Spray (holds like a dream, but I can still style my hair with heat tools even after I’ve sprayed. No sizzle!) and the Texture Boost, a spray wax.

The proof is in my perfectly-maintained mane: I never thought I’d reach up and feel soft, healthy hair on my head! And who knows… Maybe with continued use this stuff’ll make my hair even better. I’m definitely sticking to Joico to find out.
