In the summertime it’s all about the golden bronze glow. In the winter, however, it’s time for a more pearly gold glow that reflects the theme of the season. So get your ice goddess on with my favorite highlighters for the winter!

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Luminous Light
By far my favorite highlighting powder. It’s got the most natural radiant glow I’ve ever seen in a powder product, and this particular shade is just cool enough to give off that wintery feeling. And the Ambient Lighting Powder is nice and subtle, so if you’re going for a more subdued glow, this one’s for you.

MAC Divine Night Mineralize Skin Finish
If you’re going for the opposite of subdued, read on: MAC’s limited edition Divine Night collection includes everything you’ll need to glow, baby, glow! The Mineralize Skin Finish is a showstopper; the color “Centre of Attention” has both the shimmery peach and more intense gold to give off an almost reflective glow to your face.

UD

Urban Decay Naked Illuminated
I’m a huge fan of Urban Decay so I’m not surprised that the Naked Illuminated highlighter is one of my favorites this season. Again, this has the perfect blend of that pearl/golden combination to create the ideal highlight color. And the microfine shimmer is just enough to give you mega glow without sparkling. That’s really what you want out of a highlighter: You want to make sure you glow and not look like you have flecks of shimmer all over your face!

mufe

Make Up For Ever Uplight Luminizer
If powder isn’t your thing, you’re in luck: Make Up For Ever makes possibly the most perfect luminizer gel ever! I have it in #12 (dewy golden warm) which is more on the gold side, but you can go with #22 which has a cooler, more pearly color to it. Whichever color you choose, it’s my number one pick for a liquid or gel luminizer.

lorac-perfectly-lit-600x379

LORAC Perfectly Lit Oil-Free Luminizing Powder in Luminous
I would liken this product to the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder: They both have the microfine texture that makes it look like your skin is actually glowing, and not like you’ve got a glowing powder sitting on top of your skin. The LORAC Perfectly Lit luminizer, though, is a bit more intense as far as glow goes.

Hourglass really is amazing! Bobbi Brown shimmer brick in Pink was also great, but that color was discontinued and all others are either too pink, too brown or too golden.

thank you for this post! i just started getting into the whole highlighting/contouring thing. i’m a bit late. haha. oh, do you know of any good lip stains for someone who hasn’t gotten into lipsticks yet? i’m currently on the hunt for lip stains/tint in a red color. i’m iffy about lipsticks because they don’t look right on me. but i am loving the red everyone’s been sporting this season.

    Hi Teni!

Thank you very much for helping me learn more about make up. I’m really beginning to feel more confident about myself because of watching you and applying all of your tips. I am 24 now however for the longest time I felt like I had the same look as high school and I didn’t know how to branch out really. When I turned 22 two years ago and started reading your blogs and watching your videos I started to feel brave enough to experiment. Now I feel like I have a handle on my “adult” make up and style. Thank you sincerely so much. You are very inspiring to me :)

Keep up the great work :) merry christmas!

Wow! I didn’t know there was a difference between summer & winter highlighters! Actually, I don’t really know much about highlighting. I want to give it a try, now that I know a few products that look natural :) Thank you Teni! I love your blog posts, they’re always so informative:)
    Have a wonderful weekend!

Teni, Thanks I was just looking for a new highlighter so this was perfect timing> Thisis the first time I have beeen on your Blog and I will definitely be back. I am the inventor of a solar-powered, photoluminescent vanity mirror. You put it in the sun for about 15 minutes and it will glow for over ten hours. It is made by setting photoluminescent material in resin with a cultured diamond, Swarovsky Crystals and some other pretty things and molding it to the back of a mirror. This was my solution for never finding anything in a dark handbag. I am hoping you will try it and love it enough to share with others.

For more info, my website is http://www.KerryGoLitelyStudio.com. If you’d like, I will send you one. It is much prettier in person than the photo portrays. Not only is it pretty, it is multi-functional, as well. As a survival tool and a camping light, the photolminescence is a night rescue tool. The mirror can also serve as a daytime rescue signal reflecting the sun to identify your location even at great distances.

    Regards,

Hi Teni, your skin is great.:).
Did you mix Make Up For Ever Uplight with MUFE foundation 123, which is also my favorite color and product?
Is Uplight similar to Josie Maran Argan Oil Luminizer or Anastasia Beverly Hills Highlights Creme Duo?
Which one is the best for you? Thank you so much. I adore your blog and channel :)

I love the uplight because it’s the most natural looking, and yes definitely mix with the MUFE HD Foundation!! I still love the Josie Maran Argan Oil because it’s nice and bronze, so those two would be my favorites.

    Hi Teni

I’m 36 years old and until recently never had much interest in makeup. I love your blog and your advice and tutorials. I was wondering if you might do a special blog about the perfect color palettes for women with blue eyes. Also would be nice if you had a written list of all your favorite makeup brands and brushes with a short description of the effect they create. Keep up the great work! And thanks!
