Okay, not completely natural. But as far as makeup looks go, I’m just so obsessed with a clean, flawless canvas and not much else!

Skin has been such a trend lately, too, especially on the runway. And I have a feeling the natural look will remain one of the most sought after makeup styles this year, so follow these tips to rock a more natural look:

1. Of course a flawless face starts with good skin! Focus on skincare: If your skin is in bad shape, take the necessary steps to make sure you’re taking care of your skin very well and cultivating a good environment for healthy cells to grow.

2. Opt for a BB or CC cream instead of a full coverage foundation. Or, if you’re not comfortable with coverage that’s that light, try a foundation that’s light to medium coverage. The benefits of using a BB or CC cream is that the appearance is more natural and these types of products usually come with good-for-your-skin ingredients. And, of course, they always have an SPF.

3. Which brings me to my next point… SPF! Mandatory, not optional.

4. Take it easy on the blush. My advice would be to use a cream blush and dab it on with your fingers. When you’re using a cream product and you apply using skin-to-skin contact, it generates warmth which helps the product to blend in well with your skin and appear as natural as possible.

5. Focus on your brows! I’m so glad brows have been a focal point in beauty recently, and rightfully so: Spend a little time grooming and shaping your brows to enhance them so that your eye makeup can be on the lighter side.

6. If you’re game, skip the eye makeup altogether. For my blonds, I know it’s tough since you tend to have lighter eyelashes and want some more definition; so maybe a few swipes of mascara and call it a day! For my darker-skinned beauties, many of us already have dark, defined eye lines and lashes, so work that natural beauty!

7. Try a clear or tinted balm for your lips. There’s nothing prettier than dabbing on a rosy lip balm for a youthful, natural look.

What do you do to get rid of your acne when you do have them? Is there a certain routine or product you use when you start getting pimples, white heads or any blemish whatsoever? Haha, it’s hard to imagine you having those issues done you seem so flawless. Especially your skin.

Nooooo I’ve had acne issues since my teens! And though they’re not as bad anymore (I’m 29 now) I still struggle with the occasional breakouts. From my experience it’s best to be as gentle with your skin as possible. In the past I’ve frustratingly tried to dry out the breakouts to get them to go away, but that makes the skin less healthy and therefore less able to replace the affected area with healthy cells. So the best you can do is keep a balanced diet, keep your skin clog-free, (don’t sleep with makeup on) and just cleanse and hydrate as normal. The more healthy and supple you keep your skin, the better it will heal itself. :)

It really depends on what type of acne you have – there are several variations. I suffer from cystic acne, which is caused by my hormones and the only way to treat it was with medication. If you can afford it, I recommend going to a dermatologist to figure out what type of acne you have, and the best form of treat. Since taking my medication – I have been acne free for almost 2 years!

I will definitely follow all these guidelines everyday and yes, I use my favorite sunscreen lotion everyday and I am totally agree with your point that it should be mandatory not optional.

Your blog is so good! I’m from the UK and have recommend you to all my friends. I’m also olive skinned, I’m indian but quite light l- if that makes sense?! The shade Honey in Bobbi Brown products. I’m looking for a long wearing foundation with reasonable coverage. I’ve used Estée Lauder double wear for years (for special occasions) but I feel it’s too heavy now and your videos have inspired me to try to go for a more dewy finish rather than matte. I’ve heard so much not only from you but other bloggers about Giorgio Armani luminous silk and make up forever HD foundations but their staying power isn’t so great apparently. What are your thoughts? I’ve got my sister’s wedding coming up and as you can imagine with all the indian outfits and jewellery I really want my face to look flawless as it will be getting photographed too, I’ll be dancing a lot as well!! Hehe :) so need something that will really stick! I’d really appreciate any comments you have and look forward to following your blog even more! Thank you xoxo

I do like the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, but I’m not as in love with it as I expected to be. The finish is beautiful, but the range of colors didn’t suite my olive/ashy complexion. But if a dewy but still medium/full coverage finish is what you’re going for, I’d say it’s a solid pick. :)

Love love looooove this post! How would you do a radiant, natural bridal look? I’ve been watching YouTube videos, looking through IG photos & browsing through magazines on bridal looks & none of them appeal to me, they’re all beautiful, but I prefer a more natural/enhanced version of myself…and because I don’t really know how to use makeup. I would LOVE if you did a natural bridal look:)

    Hi teni
This is a random beauty question and I have no idea where to ask!
I’ve been using the mac prep and prime in light boost but I find the texture really heavy which leaves it looking cakey under my eyes, no matter how little I use

    Any tips?

      January 12, 2014 at 1:29 pm (11 months ago)

hmmm, that’s strange. Are you putting on a lot of foundation under your eyes before you put on the highlighting pen? That may cause the cake factor!

    Hi Teni,

What BB cream or CC cream would you recommend, also in terms of cream blushes is there a brand or colour you would recommend as well. My skintone is NC42 for mac products if that helps at all. Love your videos & blogs by the way, keep up the awesome work :) !

I love this post. It’s such a great departure from all these beauty videos I see where girls apply three different concealers to imaginary dark circles. I definitely can’t wait to see what you do in 2014 because I have a feeling it will be amazing.

Natural is always best for everyday wear. Love the look. Your skin tone is absolutely gorgeous. I wish I could have a tan. I can’t believe that’s just lip balm on your lips. I want that color in a lipgloss/stick!

You know, that’s tough because you really have to take your undertones into account. Are you more on the pink (cool) side or more on the yellow/green (warm) side? Here’s what I suggest: Go into the store and try a couple of shades along your jawline, but don’t look in the mirror inside the store. Go stand by the door/window of the store and see which one matches your skin under natural light, that’s the best determining factor!

Hi Teni, Is it better to apply BB or CC cream with your fingers or using a sponge (beauty blender)? I can’t manage using a brush it looks too cakey. Your videos are so amazing and informative. :)

      January 15, 2014 at 11:45 pm (11 months ago)

Either fingers or a beauty blender are ideal! The pro of using fingers is that the warmth of the skin-to-skin contact from your fingers to your face will make the product blend in really well with your skin, making it look very natural. And the pro of using a beauty blender is you will get a more airbrushed, dewy finish. Love em both!

Hello Teni, I want to ask you something about make up.. For 2 years I was using este Lauder double wear light foundation and from your tutorial I discover HD make up forever foundation. It is nice but when I’m using it for a lot I don’t have the same results that I had when I started using it! It becomes with all foundations, I mean you should change them regularly or it de paints ?
Have you ever tryed este Lauder foundation? Do you think is good?
    Thanks xxx

THANK YOU! every time i look for a natural, more casual makeup routine its a bloody full regime with light colors. Seems a lot less than ‘natural’ to me. I’m not really a makeup fan…personal choice…but i like a little brightening and this is great!
