Lately I’ve been on a mission to get my hair back to optimal health. I’ve always liked my hair lighter, it just brightens up my face and makes me look more friendly. But the fact is that I was born with extra dark, almost-black hair; and coupled with the fact that my hair is dry, coarse, and frizzy, it makes lightening practically a death sentence for my mane! So I decided to just embrace my dark locks and get on the road to recovery. I thought the journey getting my hair from brittle and broken to healthy and manageable would be a long and tough one, but I was pleasantly surprised.
You may have seen some posts on Instagram of a fun project I recently did with TRESemmé in NYC. I’m happy to say you can now see what we’ve come up with!! This was a fresh new idea from the Tresemme team and once I heard it, I was so excited to be on board. A lot of you ask me for more hair tutorials, and for me, my favorite hair tutorials are the easy ones because I’m always short on time! We did two videos, both of which are interactive, where I create different hairstyles based on what you, the user, pick! Choose my outfits, accessories, activities, and hairstyles as I get ready… Have a look and you’ll see what I mean!
When I find a good hair treatment, my first thought is always, ‘I can’t wait to blog about this!‘ It’s not often I find a product that does what it says, (that’s why you’ll see a smaller selection of recommended hair products on my blog!) especially if the claim is pretty hefty. Such was the case when Kérastase sent me their Initialiste Advanced Scalp and Hair Concentrate: It claims to reduce breakage drastically, promote longer hair growth as a result of keeping the hair healthier, and altogether stronger and shinier hair… And these results are supposed to become visible after seven uses. All of this sounds great, of course, but I had to put this super serum to the test!
(see the end of the post for an opportunity for LA residents!)
It’s always a pleasure for me to review hair products that claim to add softness and shine to my dry, brittle hair. My hair is dry to begin with because of its coarse, frizzy, and curly texture, but the fact that I color treat it and heat style makes it even more dry and thus thirsty for more nourishment. Bumble and Bumble just sent me their Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Shampoo and Conditioner because I explained to them the nature of my hair. Immediately I noticed what makes this particular shampoo unique: It’s got a blend of six different oils in it. I found coconut oil, argan oil, macadamia nut oil, sweet almond oil, sunflower seed oil, and grapeseed oil in the ingredients, all known to be effective softening agents for hair and skin. I eagerly tried out the shampoo (sulfate-free) and conditioner, along with Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Heat/UV Protective Primer. (This spray goes on before styling and it’s supposed to protect from heat and UV damage.)
